Making clay pots the traditional African way

Our theme in Afrikaans (the second language in most South African schools) was Art. we spent some time making little clay pots. As you can see, everyone had great fun making and painting these, and I think they look pretty good.

Deciding which colours to use -  Jordanne re-painted this pot a number of times before she was satisfied.

A lot of time and effort went into these. I think moms and dads will be thrilled to see them.

After making the pots and painting them, everybody wrote an article explaining how they
made the pots, what colours they used, and what they would use these for.

The one on the left which is a hat and not a bowl, was made by Nikita. (No surprise to those of us who know her!)

Our Fairy Tale Silhouettes for English and Art

The Grade Sixs Are Building Cell Phones from Cardboard

As part of their English theme, the Grade 6s are building their cellphone designs out of cardboard. They each designed their ultimate cell phone...if you could design one too, what would you draw?
Next week they will paint and decorate them.

Warwick, "Cutting this cardboard is really difficult"
Warwick's design. Apple Mac inspired!

Jordanne, "Art is my best subject...it challenges me"
Chane, "I've chosen blue and green because they are my two favourite colours"
Nikita, "Now I am drawing my design on my cardboard"

Cole, "Lets see if my design will fit on the shoe box cardboard"
Gabriel, "Lets hope this looks nice when I'm done"

Poem - I Got My First Cell Phone

I got my first cell phone when I was ten
I liked texting better than paper and pen
I got a cute voice mail that made me smile
If someone called me I stayed happy for a while
I liked the little games too
But it wasn't long and my minutes were through
My mom was getting tired of buying me time
She looks at me as if I committed a crime

Poem - "Cellphones"

Cellphones
Mp3, texting
While busy,or resting
You can use them while you wait
You can use them on a date
Not to be used at school
Or in a pool
But a cellphone is a very useful tool
Calender,calculator
Take a picture of an alligator
Some have keyboards
Others don't
You can use them
On a boat
So call a friend
Send a text
Say good night before you rest
Just remember to pay the bill
Or your credit will go downhill

Welcome to our new blog

We are a Grade Six class of 9 children from differing cultures and backgrounds. Our ages range from 11 - 13years old. We are a mix of girls and boys. Many of us have been at this school since we were in Grade 1 but some have arrived from other schools over the years.

This blog is a display of our creative writing, thoughts and feelings, as well as our adventures. We hope you enjoy reading our blog and learning about how we live in Cape Town, South Africa.
